Thanks for the replies. One of the things I most struggle with in crosswords is knowing what words can be reduced to their first letter. Although I have no interest in cricket I've learnt that over = o, but cape = c, I had no idea.

I've only got about 10% of the answers, some of these might give me a way in. No crossing letters.
