Crumbs! Down to the wire, so apologies to Rossim for pinching it at the last hurdle. Thanks Marty and the prize was very fitting for the word although it seems that forging doesn't do their art justice. Their work is beautiful...rather more so than horseshoes!

rosalind - you're welcome! it's a lovely clue :) one of my old friends used to call me icvotria when we were at school, it's just an anagram of my name, as a few people have spotted :)

Strangely enough here on my scrap paper are the words 'hammer and tongs'. I started my clue but couldn't find a way to use them.
