Hi chrise. This weeks has me stumped. Probably because of fewer anagrams. Is 12d looking like this.... D?E? OF W???S or am I completely off track. Hint on 24a would be welcome also.

Yes, letters for 12 are correct. It's rather difficult if you haven't heard of it. Schoolboys used to giggle in history lessons when told about it!
24 is a colour named after a drink. One of the better clues!

I just got 12d. I now vaguely remember this from history class.

24a is a word meaning a plan followed by a word meaning recycle. As well as being a shade of green it's also a drink I believe...

And at last. Finished. What a slog. Thanks for various help. And of course wish everybody well.

Started easily enough but became a bit of a slog for me too. I thought some of the quibbles here a bit OTT- all the clues were solvable but none stood out. And we missed the rhyming couplet. Cheers Everyman, whoever you may be
