7d: I meant letters 2 to 8. The I could be moved after the witches too.

Sorry, meant 7D of course. I agree, though, the clue doesn't quite work - touring = around is quite a stretch!

Thanks also phil.

"Look with eyes half-closed" could mean 22d at a stretch.

Agree with all the observations so far today, but would add that 5d is one of the worst, semi literate, attempts at a cryptic definition I've ever seen. Liked 13d though

Have to agree that 5d is a terrible clue and the rest went in very quickly, compared to last week’s puzzle.

Is it just me or is 26a usually expressed without the final letter of the first word?

Also, struggling with LOI 12d "Wren has designs for this political assembly". Can anyone offer me a nudge that will put me out of my misery?

I agree about the extra letter in 26, and I don't like the clue much anyway.

The wren in 12d is a bird, though I'm not sure if the clue is biologically accurate. If you haven't heard of this assembly, it would be difficult to solve.

The last word in 12 is the place where the assembly took place. In English it's name also means something else.

Actually, "religious" would be more accurate than "political".
