The blogger on fifteensquared - Eileen today - has explained that EXCESSIVE contains XC (so "somewhat"), which is ninety in Roman numerals.

It is definitely "ninety", although "mighty" would mean much the same.

Malone, you are right to be proud, well spotted.
For me, it's not a top clue though, as Roman numerals are uppercase.
