Lumen, I think it's just that XC, ninety, 90, is part of ('somewhat') Excessive - E XC essive.

Thanks, Rusty. I'd have been happy with the answer from Cerasus if the definition was in any of the 'main' dictionaries. I checked all three of mine, Chambers, Collins and ODE.
