I know someone from Lebanon who says he has it in coffee. It has to be Scandinavia that corners the market. We use it in our Swedish stuff; I always make braided coffee bread, and cardamom cookies were our kids' favorite. I call it the spice of the gods.

Well, the 'spice of the gods' is not a favourite of mine! but I never
had a chance to taste it in pastry

I only ever tasted it when someone gave me some to chew after a strong garlicky meal - and I wished I had stayed with the lovely taste of garlic in my mouth!

Hi, Pigale. My "ball of fluff" is fine and had her 5th birthday earlier this month. Our next door neighbours on both sides have recently acquired puppies - a cockapoo last month on one side and, just yesterday, a golden retriever on the other - so Skye has some serious competition in the cuteness stakes!

Total non sequitur: I always put a few whole cardamom pods in when making an Indian curry, but remove them before serving.

Hi Skywalker, a golden age for a Golden!

I did not know the Cockapoo breed, just looked it up and they look cute indeed! I just hope for your sake that your neighbour's dog
has not inherited the worse part of the poodle breed, ie yap,
yap, yap!

particularly the smaller ones.

hello Pigale, lovely to see ou. If I were PM I would somehow insist that yapping dogs stay indoors (actually I would like to get rid of them but I'm a realist) (ducks)

I have 3 near me, one just two gardens away. Drives me nuts. I do the gardening from 6 am to avoid the noise, but then I get that from the M40!!

For the first time in my life I had actually bought a 24 pack of loo rolls in February, simply because they were on special offer. Not half way through yet. A friend bought 16 kilos of strong flour and then went gluten-free (no comment), so it is distributed among friends. And I had some foil packed yeast best before 2009 - still works.

A whole cardamom in the mouth is horrible!

I will let elle know you posted, pigale

To me, Pigale, all of these new crossbreeds, where they mangle the names of the original ancestry into a ridiculous name (e.g. Cocker Spaniel + Poodle = Cockapoo, Pug + Beagle = Puggle, Chihuahua + Pekingese = Cheeks) and then charge equally ridiculous prices for them, used to be called what they are: mongrels. I'm still waiting for the Poodle/Shitzu cross - Pooshit or Shitpoo?

I'm being a bit hypocritical here. The Golden Retriever was originally a cross between a Yellow Retriever and a Tweed Water Spaniel. I won't tell Skye she's a a mongrel!

Hello Ros, lovely to see you too!
I probably stayed away too long, and then wondered if anyone would remember me!

you know, there are a lot of stuff that are still good years after they "best before" date! it's amazing how much food is being wasted just because people abide with the precise date on the packet!

I am afraid I cannot do any gardening as my back won't take it - it barely copes with the hoover - OK so long as I am quick (what an excuse to do a 'quick go over').
My British friend was due to come mid May and then again September/October - Well mid-May is out of the question for obvious reasons, so the garden is a wild field!
BTW I think you'll find that Elle knows I posted .............

Chris, (or anyone)

Where is Rusty? Does he still come on the Forum? I can't see him
anywhere - I left a message on the PCT (retrieved from the 21st February!) but he has not answered so far.
