I can see that the first line is reflected by the treatment of the answers before grid entry, and then I have six names covering 29 cells in total (some are counted twice) - but why do these represent the last line, is it just that they are all men or is there more to it? - I mean they could all be infants.

Your enthusiasm is a delight, Brendan! Did you use any special colours for the highlighting?

I am nearly there, although have not got the poem. It is neat that the 6 names are in pairs. I am not sure about one of them as I cant parse it, the Windows clue, but it must be Gates, as he invented it, to go with the odd 4 letter name.

i dont think the preamble is clear as I am not sure what to highlight, the sentiment, the first and last line, or the title.

Hi Grunger,

By "windows clue" do you mean 23d? - If so it isn't one of the names, also they are not in pairs. There is a poem with a very short whos name basically attunes perfectly with how you have to adjust all the non name clues.

Once you have all the names, shade them in and the name of the poem will instantly become apparent - I promise you:-)

Sorry, typo ....."very short title whose name..." and 23d isn't "Gates".

Sorry again Grunger, I meant the poem's first line attunes with how the non name clues are treated.

Regarding the names being in pairs, apart from 2 names that could clearly go together, I don't think there's any connection between the others...but you've got me frantically Googling!

Thanks. I think I have got the poem but cant see how the last line works in the grid. The first 2 names I got made a famous king, then **** Gates, and then a third person I had heard of.

But if Gates is wrong, I must have a wrong letter in 29A, which I haven't got.

Also need 6A Workmanship's something done after following practice beforehand (6/7)

Any hint would be appreciated.
