@17: I must be misinterpreting your clue, since I'm seeing it as a subtractive and have ECTION left over. What am I doing wrong?

Hi aristo, I very much doubt you're doing anything wrong as you've correctly identified the extraction fodder and appreciated it's &lit.
I imagine your "problem" is side-splitting removing both sides of "sections" which I confess to having had doubts over but feel that if "something" is side-splitting" it would remove/split sides.
Obviously the intention is to refer to laughing hard and "sides-splitting" doesn't "exist"
Extraction indicator: from

Feel free to disregard if you feel my interpretation is inappropriate.

A few of the regulars missing. I hope malcolmx didn’t take a wrong turn among the red lights of Amsterdam. Once again I enjoyed all of the entries, but will only mention several nice touches: kt’s old bile, mattrom’s brilliant ouch/sore point, lessons from dorrien, ginge’s ingenious subtractive, fiery’s subtractive with Fargo reference, the bit of fun from the vicar… Really, lots to like (it took me a minute to see faiton’s Frenchman as M.!). For its nifty use of “jet set” I’m going with bigbad @16:

Pander to, follow jet set at comedy club, maybe? (5,6)

The prize is a bit of silliness from half a century ago (its take on bigotry seems shocking now).

Thanks to all for your great clues.

Congrats BBM, nice clue!

Thanks Aristo - I'd not heard of Carol Burnett but she's very funny - 'twas a very enjoyable clip!

Delighted with the win, thank you !

I was starting to think I'd lost my touch or something - it seems a while since any success. Winning in such talented company is especially humbling.

Loved the clip as well.

See you all next week.

Stay safe , Marty x
