21 is a rather odd clue. "bearskins" appears in 8a; "Adonis" appears in 8d

Do you have E?G?T at 21a? What might fit those letters? :)

Yes and I can certainly fill the spaces but I don’t understand the parsing.

Chrise I thought that in the clue “half of what’s seen” referred to the fact that the answer forms half of the traditional pairing of seasonings. But yes, agree it’s a bit of a jumbled clue.

I also agree with the relative ease of the whole thing this week. I don’t mind the odd “primarily” clue to help get the ball rolling but two in a row is a bit OTT. They could have been made a little more complex without much extra effort...

22d “Badly want good pluck?” (5)

24d “Run into pain causing minor accident?” (5)

Or something like that anyhow 🙂

Excellent, Richard - I like them both.

Bit more finessing to create a link between them...

Badly want good pluck, of fender maybe?

Minor accident to fender maybe? Run in pain.

🙂

5 weeks into lockdown, I, for one, badly need a good pluck. In the ongoing debate about 21ac, I'm in the pro camp, mainly because I've never seen anything like it before. So bravo to the setter for coming up with a new type of clue. But agree that the consecutive 'primarily's are a bit poor. I don't think it's laziness, though. Sometimes this setter seems to get a bit carried away with rhymes and patterns, and fails to notice that this leaves the clues far too simple.
