I was going say that and ask if I was correct. I get the abbreviation. For me it needs solution to work with 10 letter word followed by ground. Too much time on my hands to overthink things. Certainly not my COD.

After our five mile walk this morning (Washington DC time), lunch on return, and a depressing read thru the New York Times, I returned to Everyman, which was substantially filled in last night--I get it online at 7.00pm. Nearly finished after Wiepedian excursions on plant life and perennials. But I am still lost on 14 down and 25 across and I cannot parse what seems to be the answer to the 3 letter across re conscientious objector.

14d definition is "plant" (another one!) and is a 5 letter word for "dark" + a 5 letter word for "colour".

25a another plant - it's a straight anagram.

19a is hidden in the clue

But strangely, I got the dark plant last night in bed before I went to sleep, but my 85 year-old memory completely forgot it this morning....
So it goes. Trust you and yours are well. We are up to 48 deaths in Washington DC--doesn't seem like much, but we rate tenth when you look at the rate per hundred thousand. for US states.

I'm fine thanks and I text, email or call my brothers and sisters most days and they're all fine too. According to the Guardian's 'coronovirus tracker', there are just under 500 confirmed cases in my part of London, but I'm not sure how many deaths - one would be one too many! The US does seem to be have a high number of cases so I'm sure it must be a worrying time.
