Apparently sales of wine are soaring!

Well, Rosalind, as a semi-retired wine merchant I should celebrate the fact!

But I'd be much happier if sales of good quality wines were up because in my view 80% of the wine on sale in the UK is to put it kindly fairly ordinary and makes Beefeater Gin a good alternative!

I buy most of my wine from the Wine Society these days, they are head and shoulders above the rest, they are good people with thoroughly principled standards.

Long ago we used to visit a wine grower in the Faltz, who said that no country exports its best wine and the British public would drink anything labelled wine (accounting for Liebfraumilch)! I would pay lot of money to drink that man's Morio Muscat again.

Anyone had Georgian wine ? Damn, that was good. Only had it twice, in the Baltics. Probably hard to get over here !
