I don’t think it is a cryptic definition. Just a capital city in western Africa, as it says.

Hi all, I went with a different answer to 9a. A place to the West of Africa with a three letter currency abbreviation in the middle.

I thought about that, jono. A long way West of Africa? Not sure I can make the parsing work - one of the two As surrounding the (abbreviated?) currency seems unaccounted for. But I may be missing something.
Or have I misconstrued you?

Well, it's a poor clue if there are any number of solutions in the absence of crossers.
LAGOS and ACCRA immediately spring to mind, though the former is only a regional capital.

On reflection I’m sure you’re right rogissimo. I’m prone to overthinking! Will go with the simpler West African option

jono, even so, unless we’re all missing something, as chrise says it’s not the best of clues!

Fairly straightforward but although I have an answer for 9ac I am unsure of the parsing.
The best I can come up with is an abbreviation backwards (west) of a Del Boy expression.
Not at all convinced.

I think you may be missing something. What else can west mean in a clue?

9ac is an excellent clue and does parse - knowledge of African capitals important, will say no more as would be giving it away

It can be a direction to look at the word from right to left (in a westerly direction).
