where is everyone? Think I have everything except 17 and 8 ... I think 20 must be a substitute upside down, which is a bit sneaky ... and unsure about 9.

I've ground to a halt, even after sleeping on it.
I'd appreciate a nudge for 23a.

9d is 'the plural of a certain type of bone' in a word for essence, + an abbreviation for the bible.

sorry, mattrom, I meant 9a ... 23 is letter at end of the l word and letter for queen surrounding a superstore ... any thoughts on 17/8? I've wasted several hours on it ...

I'm in the same boat with the others.

I am assum first 3 letters of 8 are a substitution and form part of some sort of anagram but I can't get further than that ...
