Doing a last run-through, just realised I haven't made an entry at 2d.
I can only think of Pence, but if right, can't parse it.

Hi Jack, I don't get 'Pence' - it has 5 letters and wouldn't fit with the across clues. You're looking for a (political) party official (one responsible for discipline!)

I was thinking Veep, having failed to change my original 19 in 8a!

Got it, you meant Mike Pence. The first 2 letters are the initials of a term often used when referring to the US government, then "one" then "Trump's" termination. I'm not sure if the actual answer is used in the US but it does refer to a party official in UK political parties.

I think it's that the specific "today" which relates to the theme of the puzzle has a folk-history of being the official day on which the traditional roles of the definition are reversed. As you say, Brendan, it's not the breaking of a social norm that it once was.

Hi Bigjack and Brendan

I had a slow start until I got the dates, but I'm stuck on the last three because I'm not convinced I've got 10,24 right. (9ac and 24ac are connected to 10,24 but 7d isn't. For the latter I have ???U?A, the clue is Soul of an MP disturbed about what UK's abandoning (6)

For 9ac I have S?R???. I've just got 9ac and it confirms 10,24, so I just need a hint for 7d. I can't find a word that fits that I understand!

So is setter a dog in this case for 24ac? I can't quite parse it all
