A real G & S theme to this week's puzzle, with several of their works making an appearance.

Well, I've finished it, I think, but there were some odd ones.
3d Drink 'turned on' hotel employee (6)
What's the "turned on" doing?
17 On very short cycle (3)
Only one word seems to fit, but it's very loosely defined.

I dislike clues like 26d - the homophone is obvious, but it is ambiguous which one to enter (I guessed right, in fact).

Hi Chris, I also can't figure out what 'turned on' is doing in 3d and I think exactly the same as you in relation to 17d.

3 D Isn't the 'turned on' indicating the reversal of the usual crossword 'on'?

That works, malone, but it's unnecessary, as the whole word is also a drink. I suspect that Brummie didn't notice that!

Yes, malone, your parsing works, but, as I said, I suspect that Brummie hadn't noticed the other drink!

...or maybe the setter just disregarded it and wanted a slightly longer clue?!

I simply ignored the "turned on".

Although I thought it was going to be easy, I've only got about half. Due to a late night and writing Christmas cards today, I keep falling asleep!

Can you get me going again with some hints for 14ac and 24ac.

I only have 14ac ??????C? (8) and 24ac ???D?????? (10) I was so disappointed that the answer to the latter wasn't navigators.

I've now got 24ac, so need some help with 20d

Shrunk emptied - essentially neglected (7) I have ???E???
I thought it might start with SK, but that would make 21 ac a bit odd. I'm assuming the definition is neglected.
