Ahh, silly me - I didn't check the cups. Good luck:-)

My 'Happy Hammers' along with their fans, are distinctly less than happy at the moment:-(

I'm pleased to tell you that I finished all by myself this week. The hint about 15D was helpful.

I think it must have been an easy one, so I'm expecting a stinker next next week.

I was out all day yesterday, and did not look at the puzzle until I was on the train home. Burning the midnight oil I did most, and have now finished it. When I looked at the Forum, all the queries related to clues I had no problem with. However, the one I can't parse is 19 across. Is the fourth letter I or O? The reference to fuel seems to lead to I, although there is no inidication of an anagram, which is needed to fit it in. Also spelling, the number of Ss, is confusing.

Clarification, please.

RE 19a

Definition = Old Sporting Venue

Fuel = letter fuel/petrol company (Trade name) reversed

Short piece = 5 letters of a 6 letter word (Think newspaper)

4th letter is O

Thanks, Brendan. I was barking up completely the wrong tree. Though the word fuel on its own does not to me imply a fuel company. And a newspaper column is not necessarily short.

Anyway, thanks again.

Hi Jaffra,

"Short Piece" means that the word Column is made "short", hence 'COLUM'

Thanks yet again, Brendan.

Almost as soon as I had sent my last post, I realised I was just being stupid. Of course I know that short and similar constructions means cut the last letter. My only excuse is old age and working too late at night.
