Are we talking about the same clue?

1d Summons cut and used in the Vatican (6) D?C?E?

Cut = Dock

And used in Vatican (In Italian) = Et

How did you get 'Decree' as the answer?

Brendan, I'm stuck as to where the "t" comes from?
Docket = summons (def)
dock - cut
e - and (in Italian )

but the "t"?

Hi Elle, Malone's already explained that "and" in Latin is ET.

(Although I've been told Docket is wrong. I don't think it is, but you never know:-)

Brendan, I didn't notice people saying yours was wrong - but I spotted the erroneous 'decree'. My post was because you'd wondered about the Et in 'Docket'.

I didn't think of its being Latin…. that explains the "t"!
