26d is To be understood, with seconds to spare, finish drawing (3,2)

Exactly so, Cerasus and that is what makes this clue such a beauty . Incidentally, I think only two other creatures do so - sloth and manatee.

I liked this one. Struggled with 15d and 19d as I am from the Southern Hemisphere but got there in the end. 24d was inspired.

I cannot parse 1a - I got the solution after in .2 d. I cannot see how second two words correspond to the definition
