Good Morning All!
I'm really struggling with this one [no change there, then]
Agree with Caravaggio with 21a, but got there...
Definitely didn't like 7a
Got 20d okay, but couldn't work out why until I read your threads!

Brain dead for the following:
1d flipping weatherbeaten
-u---

17d is completely eluding me - only card games I know are snap and happy families....
-i---u-

10a battle to surround the high ground
---e-ill
wasn't sure whether it begins with an 'h' or it should be ----hill??

13d duck with a spade??
shovel-e-

and this could be wrong cos I got 23a as neon, but it's just a guess

Perhaps I should just rename myself Thicky2?

Any help gratefully appreciated
I wonder if Karen ha received her DVD yet???

Thanks, AJT, would have struggled with 10a, but just as I posted I went back to the crossword and did a little cheating with Quick Solve...
Can't see the link with piquet, though, I thought of whist....

and got
17d wistful
which helped get
22a touching

so, 1d - flipping weatherbeaten
Ruddy???

- hopefully

13d Doh!

Cheers

I haven't got the crossword so can't help with the wordplay, Chris - just giving you words to fit.

Good morning all,

It's filled up since yesterday morning! Now, Chris, let's look at 1d first. This word could go in front 'duck' - it's a North American diving duck with a blue bill. It's also an adjective which you might use instead of florid to describe someone's complexion.

AJT's provided you with the other answers but he's a little in the dark as far as 17d is concerned as he hasn't got the clue. What you need is a five-letter card game, lose the h, and add a synonym for 'packed' [in the sense of, say, a railway carriage] but lose an l!

Regards,

Caravaggio

Well done, Chris! You've worked them out for yourself and, if you've never seen a ruddy duck, could I suggest that you try Google Images because on the first occasion that I saw one I thought I'd been drinking...
