Many thanks Scorpiojo

I've got them all now. Both 17d and 21ac are as I thought. Getting the wrong letter at the end of 14d was a silly mistake.

I really enjoyed this and had no idea it was Monty Python's 50th anniversary.

I was particularly pleased and surprised to see Neil Innes was connected to them - I had no idea.

Back in the late 60's/early 70's my older brother bought a Vox AC30 from him - Oh, if only he'd had a crystal ball he would never have sold it:-(

I was disappointed that the only other non-cast writer didn't make it in - Douglas Adams!

@Simon and @Chris

I agree, disappointing to see Douglas Adams and Carol Cleveland omitted.

Re 1ac...

I had always thought that in previous crosswords I've done that 'at college' was parsed by 'UP'

Then with 'Family' being KIN and 'Car' being JAG there seems to be a 'C' left over.

The only other way I can see this works is if C is 'College' and 'UP' is London?

Brendan, trains to London from the country are known as "up" trains.

I thought the clue was quite clever as the "giving a lift" misdirects.

Got it, thanks Laertes and agree about the misdirect - very clever.
