Williamseal, the word is in two pieces, two places in the grid. It's a rather special, expensive form of transport - and very famous. The Belgian has definitely used it.

All done EXCEPT....26a.. Stimulant from Kashmir isn't repellent(4). I have -IRI or - IRE depending on 16d writer spelling. HELP with missing first letter appreciated as neither Miri not Siri seem to be correct.... Thanks.

Hi Connie, you have it; Siri (sirih) another name for betel - a stimulant (chew the leaves). It's written within in reverse.
