Hi alwayspuzzled, I think you're going to scream DOH! very loudly, in conjunction with the amended cell & empty cell look at the contents of the 2 cells immediately to the right !

Thank you for that Ginge. You are right. The DOH caused a sonic boom and I will be bruised from kicking myself for quite a while.

I'm still working on last week's and it's doing my head in. I've got the words at the top and bottom, and the seven-letters to go underneath the grid, but I'm baffled by 26a and 22d. I suspect MEDAL becomes METAL by substitution, but MAL, MEL, MIL, MOL, MUL, MYL... none seems to work.Maybe if someone could give me a broad hint as to the two clues I'd be able to work out what goes in the centre square as well. C'mon Ginge, make me go DOH as well!

Crimbo, those held me up as well. The last three letters of 26 across are the same as the middle three letters of 22 down (5 letters) and are a number. It is the number which is entered and not the letters.

Thanks alwayspuzzled. I've now got it, and I'm off for a lie down!

It's the Title I'm struggling with. Got the seven letters (they could be arranged to make a word for the upper part of a house in the singular - but I don't think that's the answer). It must be crushingly obvious as nobody else seems to have had the same problem. Any clue would be appreciated.

Hi jeroboam, I think 1 of your 7 is wrong. Have another look where your "i" comes from. I no longer have the puzzle so can't help with the positions but I had a different vowel and "they" anagrammed to an appropriate 2 word Latin phrase.

Thanks Ginge. It's amazing what one wrong letter will do. My correction worked in the clue, but I now realise that another letter works equally well, if not better and hey presto I have the answer. Thanks again.
