Thanks Chrise, 27 ac. confused me too the only fitting answer is a verb form
Never heard of Quid in relation to puff puff but with Paul I am always on a learning curve.....

I thought Quid was the definition and the meat was something that goes with eggs, but I've ended up with a word that is not in my dictionary. Is the answer a common word?

I've not got many yet as I started even later than usual today, but finding Paul very hard. I was hoping for something a bit easier after last week's horror, Which took me three days on and off!!!

Have worked out the parsing for 27 across, the centre is a famous Kipling poem reversed! Surrounded by 'something written....

I'm not seeing "something written" for the rest of my answer, playbus!

Seen in the other forum. For 5d.

And a female swan is a PEN, impressed (AH!) by a male’s train (E, the last letter of male.).

I know what quid means. I'd simply gone a step too far and decided the answer had to start with Chew. I've stepped back now.
