IanSW, yes, you need a French phrase. 'One circuit' gives you the first four letters.

1d and 19a both double definitions. 19 is a French vegetable used as a term of endearment, and used to describe a pastry.

6 is tortuous - a word for s(H)arply moving (I'd never heard of, but may be Australian). Main piece onboard surrounding A + N (national) + a fish + ooh (I like that) + word for work +letter for power
