Both make sense now. Had RO-- because that seemed to fit with "cast", like dice.

Clarification on the following please...

12A - the defn of the answer seems to be(unusually) in the middle of the clue - Extra Special with team/side minus id?

36A - Dn to mean return?

12a: How many on a certain team? Drop the last 1/2 of the word & insert "S"pecial.

36a: first three letters are unreferenced. This seems a bit unfair considering the same happens to "N" & "D" in the crossing (down) answers.

12ac,Some of the meanings that Chambers give "else" indicate "exta" - other, besides, so the definition is the first word - then we have s for special, inside half of eleven.
35ac Chambers - again - gives one of the meanings of un as on, so then we get the wuperfluous d, and re - turn = er.
