New to cryptic crosswords and have been having a go with my mum on our towns local magazine.

Have made our best attempt at it but still have a few we can't work out.

Any help would be appreciated.

10a is TOTTER - It's a double definition (usually abbreviated to dd.),

Someone who "adds up" and also a "rag-and-bone" man, as was Steptoe.

25a FEAST DAY - (anag. of Deaf + Stay)

16d STRIATED (Barred) - (Anag. of Ratted + Is)

13a Might be HERO - it's hidden among....

....in (t)HE RO(le) in Romeo..........

9a VIBRANCY

Six = VI

Donkey's call = BRAY around

State = NC (North Carolina)

9a probably means that your 4d is wrong.

I have a feeling it might be XANADU (Paradise) but, as yet, can't parse it.

1a SPHINX (To be enigmatic)

Direction = S(outh)

Reflects = Thinks and "heard" indicates a homophone of what it might sound like if spoken by a cockney - so THINKS becomes PHINX

Okay, 4d is definitely XANADU - It's another "hidden"

Unknown = X followed by (athelst)AN ADU(lterated)
