I sent an email last weekend about Dan Word having all the answers but to date no response.
Another relatively easy puzzle today unfortunately

I emailed them today about dumbing down and about Danword. Disappointing that you have had no reply.

I think a point is being missed here. Before any Crossword Forums, the Stinker was a real challenge. I won a t-shirt more than once for submitting unfinished grids. Then the forums arrived, the good and the bad. And this, the worst.
Used properly, very helpful, giving hints and suggestions. Not here: shopping lists of 4 and 5 clues submitted, asking for help before 9am on the publication day! And, of course, the "helpful" list of answers given by those only too eager to drop in how many times they've won. When I queried the value in all this I was denounced as "the crossword police."
Here's the point. Why should Myops spend time compiling what was once a challenging and entertaining crossword trying to outwit us all when this farce occurs. "Just off to the post now" as one serial offender once remarked. Sad. I would much prefer a challenge with no prizes on offer than this rubbish, At least it would allow me more time to wash and iron my current collection of ...

Good thinking, but Danword isn't a forum. I would like to know how it has every answer as soon as or soon after the Herald is published.

Good points. I share your disappointment that some people use this forum to try to win prizes. I only submit when I've done the quiz unaided, or with the aid of my mate Dougie when we put our heads together. With increasing frequency I finish unaided and without reference to anything other than my own memory. Definitely not the crossword it used to be.

I find that Danword has the answers to some Daily Mail and Telegraph crosswords too. A mystery.

It is a very sad situation. I noticed last evening that even more newspaper and magazine crosswords had been added. We may as well just pack our bags and leave. Those who just want answers and cannot be bothered with parsing, are not doing themselves any good. They just want a prize, however small, but their brains need stimulation to avoid the worst !

Yes, sad. I too am thinking of leaving. The Herald aren't responding to emails; I assume Ian has had no reply either.

Sorry, I don't understand the problem. If I know that a question asked is for a Prize, I try to give clues rather than answers, but I've never done a crossword with the hope of winning a prize - in fact I've never sent in a completed entry (apart from a few "Wordfinder" sub-puzzles in the RT, when I saw a prize that I actually would welcome - no luck, though!)

The Wee Stinker is almost an institution in Glasgow. Friends and family of mine " did" it with the aim of winning a t- shirt and competed amongst ourselves as to who had the most.
Therein lies the problem.
Hence the stushie last year when the Herald stopped awarding t- shirts but relented following many complaints.
