I've enjoyed doing this crossword, but it looks as if a mistake occurred with one of the clues. For one down, the answer is
MOPISH, for which the clue was "Like Eeyore's second expression of
impatience". Surely, this should have been MOKISH, a donkey being a MOKE, and not a MOPE?

Hi Rocketman, it is MOPISH (Apparently Eeyore was quite gloomy)

Second = MO

Expression of impatience = PISH

Many thanks, Brendan - I thought the compiler had messed up on this clue, but not knowing too much about Eeyore, I've taken what you've said on board !

Believe me, Rocketman, no one knew less about Eeyore than me - until Saturday I didn't know he? existed :-)

My Goodness, I cannot believe that neither of you has ever read "Winnie-the-Pooh"!

From Wikipedia...…

"Eeyore is a character in the Winnie-the-Pooh books by A. A. Milne. He is generally characterized as a pessimistic, gloomy, depressed, anhedonic, old grey stuffed donkey who is a friend of the title character, Winnie-the-Pooh".

Hi Elle, just to clarify, I've heard of the honey loving Winnie the Pooh just none of the other characters. :-)

The collection of Pooh stories make good reading for an adult , as well as for a child....you're never too late to start, Brendan!
I have the entire boxed collection...bought for me a few years ago by my (grown -up) daughter!

Thanks Elle, I just checked and the audiobook version is narrated by Stephen Fry and Judi Dench so I think I will give it a go (mind you, I feel a bit funny getting it in that format!)

Mmm, I 'm not sure about that, Brendan?
Maybe for a child?
But for you, as an adult, to appreciate the subtleties. I think you need to "read" the stories?
Have a look on Amazon …..you might pick up a second hand copy of the completed works?

I think you're right Elle, it just doesn't seem appropriate to have it playing through my headphones when dashing about town. I'll be passing the local library/idea store this afternoon so I'll pop in and maybe have a coffee and a "read". see what I've been missing all these years. Actually, I think the only children's books I've ever read are "Chicken Licken" (although, in truth, that was read to me) and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" - oh, and Janet and John of course, but I doubt that counts :-)
