Hi geevo, certainly no need to apologise, I do like inventiveness but on this occasion it didn't work for me, please don't let this temper your creativity.

Hi kt17, we'll have to agree to disagree and I'm with skyewalker on chit being an acceptable synonym of communication. My take is; (Chambers is, in the UK the reference dictionary of most if not all of the "better" cryptic puzzles) if Chambers has it as chitchat it would have been cryptic (to me) to insert a hyphen thus giving the appearance of 2 individual synonyms plus the "amalgamated" 3rd word. Subjective I accept but what works for one person ... and I hope any "criticism" I proffer is seen as constructive.

I took Geevo's Felix to be 'one cat', in the sense of 'a specific cat'. I thought it worked, which is why I voted for it. Apart from that, I liked it. Always pleased to see a composite clue with the (albeit excellent) anagrams.
