I have to admit defeat on numbers:

71 Fish from vessel in Wear, when rough
76 A ghost one exorcised in anger

Have ideas but can’t make them fit. Hints would really be appreciated.

No71 an anagram of Wear plus two letters fora vessel(ship) will give you the name of thefish

76. Not an anagram. A 6 letter word for a ghost and take away a vowel gives a word meaning anger.

I've found a solution in Webster and other online dictionaries as separate 4-letter words, possibly hyphenated, though it's not in Chambers.
So I'm now complete except for 28 'Soundly beat one in school (5)' which presumably is a homophone given by I or A in some sort of school - or perhaps a fish. Probably missing something really obvious, as nobody else seems to be having trouble.

Phantom, if you're referring to 6, the word is in my Chambers.
