Late in the day, and nothing to do with the crossword as such, but 8D and the discussion about it (for which I needed the hints), reminded me of a bit of doggerel that I learned from my Scottish mother many decades ago:
See that fly upon the wall?
He ain't got no clothes at all
He ain't got no shirt
He ain't got no shimmy-shirt
Brrr! Him's cold!
I think shimmy-shirt is local dialect, related to "semmit", which is a Scottish name for a vest or under-shirt. I think we pronounced it more like "simmit", but that is by the by.
The spell-checker is a pain, of course, in dealing with dialect words.
