If it helps, 'on the ball' is the definition. The first four letters are an illegal cricket delivery.

Just a handful of dodgy clues this week, not least 3d where the definition seems to be the opposite of what's required !

("no-one's told me otherwise" = AS FAR AS I KNOW)


In 25a, 'fundamentally' should be 'initially' and the clue requires 'To' at the beginning for a grammatical surface reading.
