Could someone give me a hint to the bird anagrammatised in column. 4. I’ve found a likely candidate, but I cannot find that spelling and meaning in Chambers. Anyway is the word in Chambers?

I am just not getting this. I see that the grid fill should be straightforward and so I must be missing something obvious. I have an answer for 12D and if someone could help me to parse this perhaps that will unlock things for me.
