I really liked bbm2 #18, it was clever.
As soon as I saw it, however, I knew that my vote would go to:

Liked peterm's and thought mattrom's ball-dropping Fido charming. Going with bigbad @18. I'm always surprised that you guys watched those things over there. Did Doberman actually clean Bilko's clock?

I wondered about wether your clue would work without distressed as "beleaguer" is a synonym of "hound", and docking BELEAGUERED gets "beleaguer".
Nice clue, however.
