Chambers has do as suffice and both measure up and suffice as to be adequate, and dog as mean scoundrel. I use measure up more colloquially for surface.

And Chambers does have mean as slang for excellent.

DOBERMAN, a breed of dog, is a DBE.
Without criticism, I would have used a ? rather than a !
