malone, I have the full grid and all 12 letters.

But no idea about the quote which seems to be in the perimeter.
I think it starts in Row 1 but not in Col.1.
I can see three words. First two are 4, 5 and the last word is 4 letters.

I googled those and not much.

Will check ODQ.

Is this a southern homophone that I’m never going to see? A hint please. SF is not a genre I know much (ok, anything) about.

Teenyleek, it is a homophone. You need a word for 'intensely dislike' and that sounds like a very obscure American author.
