Simond9x, re the 29 omitted letters in the grid, you may have made the same error that I did. In the clue to 37 across it looks as though two letters are omitted from the wordplay. In fact only the first one is.

Thanks Murky. That is indeed the anomaly. All done now.

All done, but I remain troubled by 1ac where I have a final letter which I cannot justify from the wordplay but which is not one of the 28. What am I missing?

While this was an easier grid fill than last week the end game was much better. A clever and engaging crossword. Thank you Nudd.

I hope that solvers are still checking in to this thread because I have two questions I am looking for some help with.
First of all, even though I have the last three letters I can't see how to get an answer for 33d (Polish part of vehicle from Stratford East).
Secondly I have one letter missing from the 11 letter sequence and I think it is in the top right corner. At the moment I have 5 missing letters identified there and wonder if 20ac is also a modified clue.
I agree with the comments made that the end game is fun.

Hi, catkin,
In 33dn, the definition is “polish”, though it’s rather obscure (but verified by Chambers). The first three letters of the answer are a part of a vehicle, a word used by Shakespeare (hence reference to Stratford), and the last letter is the standard abbreviation for East. I got the answer after slogging through possibilities in Chambers, at least I didn’t have to go far down the alphabet.

There are six missing letters in the top right corner, two of which come from 20 ac. The wordplay for this clue gives the first three letters of the answer. It’s a similar trick to 33dn: you have to read the wordplay as “South” + “American city contracted”.

Hi Wintonian
Thanks for your early reply. wrt 20ac I could kick myself. I was stuck with Atlanta!
I will retrieve my Chambers from the shelf and start looking for polish.
