aspria ... you are entitled to your opinion, but you don't have to come on here, just avoid if you disagree with the forum....

Hi Aspiria

This topic has been discussed many times.

Of course you are welcome to your opinion. The majority on here seem to disagree.

On every other thread on the Forum people ask and receive help and usually the answer.

The Forum by definition is a way of cheating, whether we ask for hints or the answer. If that infuriates you I’m surprised you are looking at the thread in the first place.

In any case it’s not worth falling out over. Have a good day.

I've started a new thread, one which may end up containing answers. The previous format - one thread with discussion and hints, one that could include answers - seemed to work fairly well.

I’ve taken the liberty of amending the headings of the two Listener threads to make it plain that this thread is for discussion only, answers can be posted ONLY IF REQUESTED in the other thread.

Can I suggest that whoever sets up next week’s threads follows this same format. This should get rid of tne aggro which occurs week after week about answers being given when Users just want a discussion.

I'm inclined to agree with aspria, and I'm pleased that the moderator has repeated the demand that was issued a long time ago but repeatedly ignored. I realise that parsing a clue to an answer that somebody already has may involve giving the answer, but in this case there was no request to parse it, merely a statement from gitto that he couldn't parse it. This is a very easy Listener, so surely it should not be necessary to give answers so early in the game.

Last week's thread on the IQ was far less explicit than the average Listener thread, so it's not true that on every other thread on the forum people are usually given help in the form the answer.

As someone who needs the occasional nudge, I'm pleased that there are two separate threads most weeks. Anyway, grid now complete but I can't fully see the wordplay in 12d so would appreciate a nudge (nothing too explicit please) before moving onto the end game. Thanks

12dn: Special tracking pulse registers phone number.

The definition is the last three words. Three letter word meaning pulse in the edible sense, followed by (tracking) one letter abbreviation of special. The second letter of the answer is omitted from the wordplay (compare 17ac).

Hope this isn’t too explicit,

Thanks wintonian. Kicking myself because they're included in my favourite cuisine. Happy with all grid entries but must have gone wrong somewhere. Seem to have only 30 clues that omit letters but 29 omitted letters in the grid. Preparing to scratch head.
