Drxx, it was quite a crafty clue, but I found it rather … inelegant!

Take Virginia, the usual abbreviation, away from (leaves), a word meaning 'unusual'. The definition is 'in fits'.

Glad I could help, Lumen. I was playing with only 'fits' to start with, then realised it was 'in fits'.

One last plea for help on this one. Can anyone help me parse 12d, please?

Faint star, without oxygen replacing uranium (5) SW?O?

Word means faint, star=S, without=WO, oxygen=O - can’t quite make it all fit with the bit about uranium?
