Drxx, it was quite a crafty clue, but I found it rather … inelegant!

Take Virginia, the usual abbreviation, away from (leaves), a word meaning 'unusual'. The definition is 'in fits'.

I couldn't see what that had to do with fits, I see it now, thanks.

Word means faint, star=S, without=WO, oxygen=O - can’t quite make it all fit with the bit about uranium?
