Hello, Quiz - and welcome. It's always good to give the clues - not everyone will have a copy. I've got my completed grid, but not the clues. I've checked Chambers and it specifically mentions 'underground chamber, room or dwelling' for my answer to 16 D.

Thanks, Quiz. Ea is a word for channel, used in the Fens, and one definition of Gest is 'bearing' . I've checked them both in Chambers. Keeps = put the bearing inside, so E Gest a.

Thank you so much - makes sense now. I knew it had to be EGESTA, but hate it when you can’t parse it and have a nagging doubt. I think it’s time I invested in a copy of Chambers, having just got really into doing the Speccie since doing the Christmas one.
