Hi Chrise,
Grace Slick wrote `White Rabbit` when she was singing with `The Great Society` (her then husband Jerry Slick and his brother Darby were band members) Here is a live recording (April 1966) featuring Grace & TGS at The Matrix, San Fransisco...it`s 6:16 long with an intro of 4:20 !

TGS broke up shortly after and Grace joined Jefferson Airplane who recorded White Rabbit which IMHO was their best work.
No disrespect to Jorma Kaukonen but White Rabbit was very much Grace`s song - I posted the vocal only JA version because it demonstrates her wonderful voice, the fantastic lyrics can clearly be heard and...because I love it!

Thanks tyke. I did like the vocal only version, but I love the full JA one.

Do you remember the gig that didn't start until the early hours of the morning because JA and The Doors couldn't agree who would go on first?

I've ordered Heron Oblivion on steve's recommendation and a listen on YouTube!

I don't think I would have signed "The great society", though the vocalist had potential!

Hi Chrise, There was a lot happening in the 60s - I remember Pink Floyd playing Ally Pally all night til the morning after!
I was 16 in 1967 when White Rabbit was released - it made a big impression on me at the time and I still love the music of those days!

I agree not all the music of the period was good - too much acid man!

... but about the same as me. Perhaps I should've been steve51.

I remember listening to Radio Luxembourg and AFN (American Forces Network) particularly. Especially a very late night (late for a schoolboy in those days) AFN DJ who ended every show at 1am with the word of the time "Peace". Introduced me to JA, The Doors, and other west coast bands.

In the past few years, I was fortunate to see the (albeit Grace-less) JS locally three times - at two of them we had both Paul Kantner and the wonderful voice of Marty Balin. Both now gone, sadly.

Glad you liked Heron Oblivion enough to buy them, chrise!

You may already know that Grace Slick has been producing art for years. Unsurprisingly, there's this one for your spare cash ...
