Thanks scarlett.
I now have completed the grid and have both the names connected by the second parts of their names.

I finally have the extras. Never heard of them but they have the same word in common with the two unclueds.

I assume the two unclueds are the two proper names.
Now a hint on what is hidden please.

You need a 4 letter synonym for the 5 letter word which connects the 2 proper nouns ... then highlight it in the appropriate colour

Typically, I'm stuck on a handful of clues that have not bothered anyone else, and despite having solved all the other mysteries.

6D I have I?OEC Presumably this is some variant of ceol, or ceilidh, reversed?
12D I have no idea how to parse and have?M?E?F?S??N
36D A??
37A ?L??
31D ?K??

Would appreciate any pointers, thanks. (And belated thanks to whoever helped me find what the poet recalled last week)

Laertes, in 6 D your 'o' is wrong - check 14 A. Your ceilidh stuff is correct.

That should help with 12 D, where your M is wrong.

31 D is entered thematically, so....

I gave up on 31down (or 31up) actually, so it would be interesting to know.....is it an acronym or something maybe?
Rest is done, a good puzzle.

Lumen, 31 D (up) is a normal - but unknown to me - word. It's a rail, bird in New Zealand. It's 'seven days', drop a letter as per the preamble, with 'a' acceleration.
