But there are 2 ‘over’s in the clue, and the second IS an orientation hint.

Well, although clues were easy enough, setting them proved tricky1

Yes - I agree myla. The clues were easyish -with one or two exceptions.
S took me ages; after reading various comments I still felt it was dodgy. The blue shade referred to has a y in it according to my book.
The first Y clue was a beaut - that whiled away a few hours of my sad life :(

I enjoyed this one once I got going.

I have a question about the O, trying not to give too much away.
I've parsed the fruit, but when I googled it two of the consonants were interchanged. Is it an alternative name for the same plant?

Hi rossim
I suspect that you've gone the way that I did at first. In fact, it's a much more obvious fruit.

Isn't it a hidden answer - backwards?
I can't parse the obvious fruit which I put in first.

My first thought, but you'll kick yourself - it's not backwards!

I have a large bruise!
From the bottom confused me.
Thanks Chris.

I've simply assumed that A had to be entered Across and D had to be entered Down. I can't see any other "indicators" that aren't open to misinterpretation

Nor me. The A and D didn't occur to me!
I started with the 4 ten letter words and worked out how they crossed each other.
There was only one place that the 2 Vs could share a square and the same for the 2 Ys.
After that it was plain sailing - except for the fruit which was probably the easiest clue there!
