I'm having trouble with 13 and 27, and although I know what 9 must be from the crossing letters I can't parse it. Schadenfreude is being trickier than usual today.

27a is a common word that you wouldn’t associate with this definition. There is a similar sounding word for a recurrent theme becoming with m and ending in f that might help.

9 silent around I should help

13 anagram of re T and uncle

I have 4 remaining to solve.
(Assuming the rest are correct)

1. Saint short of time meets retired senator somewhere in Paris.(9)

26. Dull old alpaca trapped by men from East London? (7)

Thanks.

Hi Sunray,

The saint is Vincent and senator is sen.

Paco is an alpaca. I don't get the men from E London (ous) but the definition is an old word meaning dull.

I think this puzzle was a lot of effort for little reward.

Thanks orson.
Somewhere in Paris is too vague.
I had tried ???? and the last 5 letters but the Wizard did not show this site.

The word for Dull is very obscure.
A two letter word for an African man changed to three letters to make it plural around alpaca.

25d is the last one. I am assuming Stereo system is the def.
12d. I don't understand why the last 4 letters for Dean.

So far the extra letters in the perimeter are not spelling out much.

There was a dean of St Paul's whose surname that was. Again, very obscure.

Stereo system is the defn. It's in Bradford.

As for the perimeter. I noticed two words in the middle (6 and 6) that are to be highlighted and that enabled me to finish it.
