One of the toughest ever jumbos I can remember, and still short on quite a few! Here's some of them:-
21 Across - "Half the characters in the garden do dig" (4)
(-A--)
30 Across - "Group of fans of United, 21, rarely on time"
(7,4) (T---U-- -A--)
(30 Ac MAY be connected to 21 Ac, of course).
23 Down - "Busy clock-watching?" (5,3) (----- C--)
43 Across - "High school year" (4) probably GAMY, which
covers "high" and "year", but I can't see the "school* bit.
10 Down - "A number in female side upset about goal" (6)
(--N---)

Sorry rocketman * is quite commonly used to describe an anagram and as you realised that the answer to the other clue was involved you might want the chance to solve it yourself.

Sorry chips (& rocketman) you're quite correct. A slip when posting as I did parse it correctly when solving.
