I finally worked out the downsizing, having been struck by lightning when I saw 14 ac didn't work with 15 dn as it was. Still not done much and must do some work!

Finally finished it except for 32 ac. (LE?R?) with a little help. I think the idea was rather clever, even if I was annoyed at first. (actually I can think of another scenario where some mild annoyance can be quite enhancing!)
I like the answer to 13 ac.
Thanks syzygy

Hi ros, it might help for confirmation to "do" the clue in reverse. There are few possibilities and only 1 that would fit any part of the clue as definition. The "L" should be obvious and therefore pull-down must be ... It seems to be an "Americanism" as this meaning is not given in Chambers but is in Merriam-Webster.

Ok got it, thanks ginge. I had the word noted but couldn't see it. Phew, time for some wood splitting, much easier!

It's common here but a bit slangy (I'd say), as in "If he's a doctor he's got to pull down three figures."
