This seems a very tricky one, with regard to entering the solutions. I'm especially puzzled by the meaning of "glancing contact" - does this mean that entries can go in diagonally?

The clues seem quite difficult- only a dozen done so far, and I don't understand the middle solution of 25 - how does it parse?

Thanks as always

X
GLAN
C
I
N
G

(Hopefully this will render correctly) Anyway, suppose there were an obstacle cell in the 4th cell of row 8. Then if the entry at 27 goes horizontally it would glance off the cell at row 7 column 3 and head north in the 3rd column.

If the obstacle were in row 7, however, 27 could not go horizontally since it would run head on into that cell and have to stop since there is no second number.

25 middle is &lit - 'in the wings advancing' clues the two outside letters AG.

Sigh - that did NOT render...all the leading spaces were eaten; maybe this will work:

0000X
GLAN
000C
000I
000N
000G

Struggling with the last 3 targets. I have two reading vertically top to bottom and 3 horizontally left to right. One sort of doubles back on itself as suggested by the preamble. Are any of the others diagonal, R to L, B to T or clustered?
I have the two uppermost obstacles unfilled with no associated target. Also a space on row 9 column 5. I still have BA and G to enter - or possibly another A. I need to check back what I have used so far.

I have 4 of the targets, but I am one answer short. Could someone give me a nudge for the second answer of 21 please?

Gitto, it's an archaic word for bruised severely, a 2 letter word for near, then the wordplay is fairly straightforward.

I struggled with the targets not having come across some of them. If mine are correct none are diagonal and only one reads backwards

Gitto - also ends in two consonants which do not appear together in that order at the end of any other word in TCD.

I'm glad it ends in two consonants, as that is what I have. I also have the first 2 letters, its the middle I cannot find - I'll look again.

Bus (the word not a synonym) with an r for rupee in it.
