Malone, I was trying to parse it with r being recipe - take, (which turned up in a recent i cryptic ) so missed the 2-letter detailing , so I just offered 'record' hoping it was correct. Lucky guess.

Thanks, Cerasus. I'd got rather blasé about r= recipe/take (only because it turned up in a quite a few crosswords), but I'd never encountered Rec = take before.

Neat clue Malone. I will try to remember rec. for take !

I can see how rec = take, in the sense that you press the Rec (record) button ... and in the expression "it only needed one take" in the world of filming/recording.
