I've completed, after a great deal of web searching, but am foxed by unclued 12 across. I have ?E?VR? I find an answer that fits others of the kind - but it seems to be associated with a different Celtic region.

Perhaps it's time Doc retired. All the Brewer's puzzles, & now this "verified in Chambers" crock. Really !? Where?

Not sour grapes - I solved it, but it did leave a sour taste.

Syzygy, some editions of Chambers (my Revised 13th included) have a list of 'Some First Names' - so I expect Doc's will be listed there. As it was such a poor puzzle, I didn't make the effort to look! Doc's crosswords used to be good - they've been going downhill for a while now.

What an irritating puzzle. However I think my 14ac is wrong. Novelist rejecting material. I have e?io?. I’ve put in Eaion but can’t see a novelist.
